What is Seborrheic dermatitis? Seborrheic dermatitis is a papulosquamous disorder which is patterned mainly in the sebum rich areas of the skin. The initial symptoms of this condition can be found on the scalp and inner ear, and can be identified as a slight inflammation which in time becomes dry and has the appearance of flaky types scales.
Seborrheic dermatitis is particularly common in babies and infants. Many concerned parents ask their pediatricians for a seborrheic dermatitis cure, however, this does not currently exist. The doctors will usually advise the patients about the various seborrheic dermatitis treatments and prevention methods that are available to manage and control the skin condition.
Causes of Seborrheic Dermatitis
As with many dermatitis conditions the core cause of Seborrheic dermatitis is still unknown, although it has been established that it is genetic. Seborrheic dermatitis treatments and prevention are the only options available at this time until the cause of this disorder is established. There are a number of factors that will trigger a worsening of Seborrheic Dermatitis including the level of hair cleanliness, stress, climate change, obesity and some skin disorders. The dry, flaky skin can occur in on various parts of the trunk, but most commonly on sections of the head.
Common Symptoms of Seborrheic Dermatitis Patches of dry skin, flakes or scales, itchiness, lesions, greasy or oily areas of skin, slight redness and sometimes hair loss are all common symptoms of Seborrheic Dermatitis. In some cases the affected individual may even find his eyebrows, chin and nose creases filled with dry flaky skin, resembling dandruff, during stressful times or sudden changes in the weather. Other creases in the body, especially in the torso region, may also develop flaky scales.

At this stage there has not been a cure developed for seborrheic dermatitis. The so called seborrheic dermatitis cures are just control and management of the skin condition. As the scalp is the moss common area that people develop this condition, the use of medicated shampoos that contain a mild ketoconazole and a mild corticosteroid cream or mousse are recommended as part of a management program for adults. In the case of babies, the cradle cap can usually be managed with the use of a mild shampoo and in extreme cases the application of a mild corticosteroid cream.
Certain creams and ointments are often recommended by Dermatologists for Seborrheic Dermatitis treatment and preventions and they usually contain some, or all, of the following ingredients - selenium sulfide, pyrithione, tar, zinc and salicylic acid. Alternatively you have the option of choosing a natural product, such as Manuka’s Honey UMF Cream, which has wonderful natural healing properties and has been proven to be very effective in the treatment of Seborrheic Dermatitis.
Also the use of a mild or medicated shampoo should be included as part of a management plan for adults. The combination of creams and shampoos can be quite effective with lessening the appearance of dandruff, and with relieving the annoying itchiness that makes up part of this skin disorder. To successfully alleviate the symptoms, and as part of an effective Seborrheic Dermatitis treatment, the suggested preventative treatments should be used on a continual basis.
