Herbs might not cure psoriasis, but herbal treatment for psoriasis can be a smart way to help reduce your pain, inflammation, and itching. Herbs should not be used without first consulting your doctor, and they should never be used as a replacement to your traditional medications.

Keep in mind that not all herbs are safe. Some herbs can interact with medications while other herbs may not be safe in large doses or for individuals with certain health conditions. Therefore, talk to your doctor before you start your herbal treatment for psoriasis.

Although no studies have been done, Milk Thistleis often used as an herbal treatment for psoriasis. People with psoriasis have unusual T-cell activation. Milk thistle is a known blocker of this. Milk thistle is to be taken internally, either in tablets or in liquid form. It is not suggested for people on antipsycotics or on male hormones.

Oregano Oil is another herbal treatment for psoriasis. The oil can be found at many health food stores or ordered online. Oregano oil is helpful because it has antifungal and antibacterial properties. It can be used topically or taken orally.

Turmeric can reduce pain, swelling, and inflammation. It can be taken as a capsule or in spice form. It is one of the primary flavors of curry powder and can be used in cooking.

Gotu Kola while it may not cure your psoriasis, has been shown to help heal broken skin. Pau d’arco is another herb that may improve dermatitis and enhance overall immunity. Pau d’ Arco is often found in tea form, but can also be bought in capsules.

While searching for more vitamins and herbs to use for herbal treatment of psoriasis, consider aloe, vitamin A, chamomile, bayberry, selenium, cayenne, and burdock.

You can also take herbs to help reduce stress. This can improve your psoriasis and overall health. Two popular herbs are chamomile and St. John’s wort.

Herbs should not replace traditional medication nor a doctor’s care, but herbal treatment for psoriasis has its place in helping to reduce your symptoms, ease your pain, and control your psoriasis.
